'Big girl bark': Belgian Malinois throws herself at the window after spotting a strange man peering into her owner's bedroom while housewife mom was home alone

You probably discipline our dogs for barking at noises outside, but you should also remember that that's what they're there for.

Why did people bring dogs into their house in the first place? It wasn't for cuddles, we can tell you that. They were used as hunting companions and as protection from approaching strangers in the night. But both humans and dogs have come a long way since then, and more often than not, we have to train our dogs not to bark when someone approaches or moves outside. Especially if you live in a city, it can get tiresome not only for you, but for your neighbors, if your dog barks at every little sound they think could be a "threat".

However, as we were pleasantly reminded by the housewife from Reddit's r/belgianmalinois community, a protective dog can make all the difference when it comes to a dangerous situation. She was home alone when she heard her Belgian malinois, Texas (great name, by the way), use her "big girl bark". Every owner knows what a "big girl bark" is, it's when your dog gets triggered by something and gets serious about protecting themselves, their territory, or you. She rushed to see what the commotion was and found the one thing every person home alone dreads - a strange man looking into her bedroom from the window.

Thankfully for Texas, the man ran off, and all is well. She's getting a nice, juicy reward for dinner, and from now on, we won't judge our doggos too harshly if they bark at a strange sound or creepy shadow. It might just save our lives in the future.

My dog was a feral dog before the rescue found her. She had no interactions with humans, and barely any social interaction with dogs. So, needless to say, she's been a bit of a challenge when it comes to getting her used to living in a city. She gets nervous a lot, and that means she barks when she hears people moving around outside of our apartment. It's hard because I can't explain to her that she's safe, but in reality, she's just doing what she's meant to - warning me that there is movement I should be aware of outside. When you think about it like that, you can't get mad at her.
